Cone/Stitches Off

So, I didn’t keep my promise, but I’m here today! Ginger was positively ecstatic to get her cone off, maybe she was too excited… I noticed when I got home she was scratching her ear earnestly and the whole area was covered in blood. We made her lay on a towel and wiped away most of the blood, but we couldn’t get most of it that was inside the ear. We made her stop scratching and she hasn’t done it since, but the ear worries me. The entire area around it was bloody, but she was mostly scratching inside the ear and she got really deep. We don’t know why she was scratching her ear so furiously or if her ear’s okay. It could have been a bug bite, but we want to be safe. Should we go to the vet about this? If anyone has any tips/info, please put it in the comments!

But otherwise, Ginger is living the life stitch and cone free and hasn’t been messing with her stumpy leg at all! Here’s a photo of her!

She was feeling too lazy to turn around so I could get a picture of her amputation, maybe next time! NO promises on when I’m doing my next post, I’ve learned my lesson (:

  1. Ginger is such a pretty girl. Love seeing pictures of her.
Of course, not a Vet and, if the sore ear continues you can have a Vet check it
For now though, as much as you would hate to do it, may have to put the cone back on or figure out some way to protect the ear from any big scratching.
The cone itself may have called some irritation up arpun the outside where she felt like she had to scratch
You’ll find that with a rear leg amp, you do want to be diligent in scratching their ears, shoulder, mug, src as they can’t reach all areas that need to be scratched
Give that sweet girl some more extra treats for us. She’s such a food girl 🥰

    1. Thank you, like I said we’ve gotten her to stop scratching, so hopefully we won’t need the cone, but thanks for the tips!

  2. Ginger is the cutest dog EVER!!! What a great photo especially for a doggie who just had surgery.

YAY for no more stitches! I’m going to guess the scratching was just out of pure relief that she could finally get to her ears and scratch 10 day old itches. Keep an eye on the area and if you see any redness or swelling definitely let your vet know.

No need to beat yourself up about not posting when you said you were going to. Ginger wants you to live your best life in real time, especially with her! We just love the updates when you are able to get to them, no worries here OK? Now go play with her!

    1. The inside of her ear where she was trying to itch is still bright red because of her scratching, we’ll keep an eye on it and tell the vet if it gets worse. She just stole one of my socks and went outside with it, we got some pictures of her in her snazzy new bow tie (: I’ll put some of them in my next post, as always thanks for answering!
